Media is a reflection of reality, incest, rape all of that is normalizing it in your head and thus making normal for you completely different than what should be. "Cartoons aren't human and are therefore incapable of relationships" is a perfect example of this, you read or watch romance media and feel happy (or sad) depending on what you see it effects you similarly to watching someone real do the same thing, porn does the same.

Is it possible to work within a broken system to fix it, or does participating in it just make you another part of the problem?
And a follow-up: when every option is compromised, what do we actually owe the people around us? Is showing up and doing something small enough? Or is that just a comfortable excuse for not burning it all down?
This isn't about politics in the abstract. It's more of an individual question. When you know the game is rigged and you still have to live in it, what does a decent person actually do?
And when we do those small good things inside a system we know is rotten, are we healing it, or just cutting the leaves of a tree that needs to come down?

You exist, maybe in unliveable circumstances you form groups and form system within the system it all depends on how functionable the remains of that broken system is. If there aren't any remains for the people, someone or you rally all you find to build something anew or rebuild it to a functional state. The individual is as important as the group if theres no decent person trying to be good, to show up there will be no system that can be repaired.
There always needs to be a start of goodwill no matter how small it has its effect.
What im saying is we can't function without the good no matter how small, we have within all of us.

A broken system is best fixed with a pincer approach from within and without. You need to both change the internal culture and practices and excercise influence from beyond the confines of the system.
And when the game is rigged beyond all fixing (it never is), even then it is a moral person’s duty to act in benefit of their community. Regardless of the tree’s rot, patches of flowers are patches of flowers, and ought be appreciated.

I think an internal approach is useless. Humans are not the same. Everyone does their own thing, despite whatever the majority culture is. Even though humans are all unique, this doesn’t actually result in random, unpredictable behavior.
Rather it’s the opposite. There are so many of us that our most common instincts prevail in the face of sheer numbers. If you don’t understand what I mean, then think about it like this: when you flip a coin, the side the lands face up is random, right? Even though it’s a 50/50 chance, you’ll never be able to tell with certainty what the outcome is going to be. But, if you flip the same coin many times, a pattern emerges - the 50% odds that we’re familiar with. It’s an intrinsic property contained within the very nature of a coin flip. Humans are the same way.
We can overcome our natural instincts, and we can even be virtuous and beautiful beings, transcending our base desires, but these are exceptions. Eight billion is an incomprehensibly large number. It doesn’t matter if 10 million humans are able to adhere to a morally righteous culture. The rest will ruin it by breaking the contract, a contract that only works if everyone follows it, a contract that is simply impossible to enforce on that scale.
It doesn’t even have to be true that these remaining people are “evil” or “bad” or “tainted” or “selfish” or whatever label you want to paint them as. Everyone is different, and in fact we may even think of many of these people as “good”, but a vast number of people will possess some level of base desire, and a lot will act on it in some way. These little things do not mean much on their own, but in the face of billions of people it is impossible for anything to completely oppose it.
Just as there are countless molecules in a wave all working together to tirelessly shave the cliff’s face away, so does the random human animalistic instinct overpower everything. It is futile to fight it in hopes of changing the human race for the better. Against magnitude, all crumbles.

The only way to make real change is to work with human tendencies than against them. This is why currency works. Money leverages our desires to own resources, at the cost of the downtrodden and unlucky. It is a creation arisen from our greatest evils, but one of our most beneficial.
Greed. Pride. Lust. Envy. Gluttony. Wrath. Sloth.
These are not only sins to be scorned. They are sins we must acknowledge and accept as an irrefutable part of mankind as a whole and something that we may never truly rid of ourselves from, lest we become a different species. No, instead we must utilize these for ourselves with systems that punish excessive behavior but satisfy these dark desires. Economy hurts those who spend too much, and it hurts those that spend too little, who waste their rewards without ever being able to use them. In this manner, we should come up with other methods for our collective innate desires, and after we will be able to gain from our flaws rather than turn our noses up at them.
