When you look at cartoon porn are you jerking off to people or the idea of people? Cartoons aren't human and are therefore incapable of relationships, is it possible for there to be cartoon incest porn or is it all in your head?

If you're asking if fiction about incest should be treated as actual incest, or pornographic drawings should be treated as pornographic photos, then no, of course not. It's obvious.

Happiness is a trap. It makes you forget how cruel life can be. It makes you believe that maybe, just maybe, things might actually work out for once. But it never lasts forever. Sooner or later, something takes it away. People leave. Things fall apart. The life you thought you’d have becomes a life you barely recognize. And the smarter you are, the sooner you realize that every good thing comes with an expiration date.

Eventually, you stop fearing the day happiness ends and start fearing the day it begins. Because once you’ve experienced what it feels like to have everything, you know exactly what it feels like to lose it. And after a while, you’d rather live your entire life feeling nothing than experience a moment of happiness you’ll spend the rest of your life mourning.

Phaeron's picture
ed: 02/03/2026

why act so down about it? enjoy the happiness while it lasts. don't dread whats coming, it'll only let you expect that it's going to be worse than it is. look upon life as a gift, rather than a burden, you were chosen. nobody else, you! you were chosen to live the life you have. think of bad times as an experience. always think 'its going to be better'. if you do, you'll see happiness in the smallest things. find a penny? lucky you! the sun is shining? what a time to be alive! it's raining? the plants are growing!

don't expect less if you deep down, wish for so much more. no human ever stops dreaming, make those dreams who you are. not who you could be. yearn for the dream of happiness. if you don't dream it, you'll never experience it.

You're not wrong that everything ends. You're wrong that the ending is the point.

I hear what you're saying, and it comes from somewhere real. Losing something good hurts more than never having it, and anyone who's been through that knows the fear you're describing. It makes sense to want to protect yourself from that.

But I want to ask you something. You said you'd rather feel nothing than feel happiness you'll mourn. So let me ask: have you actually tried feeling nothing? Because it doesn't work the way you're describing. You don't get peace. You get a low hum of fear that never turns off. You spend your life watching for the thing that will hurt you, and that watching is its own kind of pain.

You're right that good things end. But so does the fear. So does the numbness. Nothing you're feeling right now is permanent either. You're not choosing between "happiness that ends" and "peace that lasts." You're choosing between two things that both end, and one of them is worth having.

I'm not going to tell you to be happy. I'm just asking whether the thing you're calling safety is actually safety, or just a different kind of pain that's easier to predict.

I made a new friend today. Imma sound like a kind3rgartener for a bit, I just a littl3 happy autist right now. So me and a coworker were going to the cafeteria for lunch. We had seen each other around, talked at functions, things like that. I speed ahead a little and get there first. I am just ahead of him in line and grab the last coffee off the tray. He grumbles, goodnaturedly, about it and I, jokingly, say "First come first serve."

He pauses a second and says, "Is that a reference to that one mediocre comic?"

So we sit together at a table, discuss this and that, find out we have a lot in common.

I now have a good friend and a fellow MTG and TTRPG enthusiast to discuss things with.

Try to connect with everyone you can. Who knows what can happen? Isn't it just a wonderful world we live in?

Can a Individual truly be happy without the basic structure of social settings?

Gendarmerie Eloquess's picture
ed: 07/08/2026

I’d argue, as long as your definition of happiness revolves around emotions assosciated with dopamine, a person can in fact be happy in your hypothetical. Either in the case where social frameworks are built up and intentionally discarded, or in the case where they are never present, the subject is still able to derive pleasure from the selfish and individualistic. I know I have gone lonv periods of time without thinkinv of any other person and been happy all the while.

Morality Is Necessary's picture
ed: 02/10/2026

Humans are fundamentally extraordinarily social creatures, while true that you could do selfish and self centered things to stay happy for a short time it ultimately would be for nought as after an extended amount of time alone the mind begins to, well, go insane as well as rapidly raises the risk of severe depression, chronic anxiety, cognitive fatigue, and paranoia...

Sems's picture
ed: 15/01/2021

Right in a case where they were never present we'd either have a caveman or someone raised in a sterile enviroment and only getting their information about basic knowledge by a very filtered source that somehow removes the human factor of the information.

In a case where they've been discarded I don't really see a way on how they'd survive without establishing a new one.

If you boil happiness down to a chemical, what's the point of living atp? Fuck it yk, go full psychonautic and d!e fr

Zeraora's picture
ed: 08/05/2026

No, not really.

Happiness requires social formation, but not necessarily ongoing social density. A person needs enough social structure to have become a person, and then enough to keep being one. How much that second part is depends on the person.

Yeah my initial question was flawed from the get-go I just wanted to see more nuanced takes.

My follow up question would've been how much human connection is needed and if there is even a way to sterilize it but I can assume your answer from this reply

Where does confidence become arrogance? Where does humility become self hatred?

most philisophical thought I’ve had in a few weeks

you’re getting sloppy, Morgan.

Local Heretic's picture
ed: 17/03/2026

The people below me already said it, so tangent. How do you combine the two? How do you have confidence *and* humility? They seem like opposites, no?

As far as I can tell, the true opposites are the bad side of confidence and the good side of humility, and vice versa. To be humble, you must believe you are not above others. To be courageous, one must have self-belief. You can be confident in your abilities while knowing and acknowledging your faults. You can also believe yourself above others as well as hate yourself for your faults. Which sounds more enjoyable? Work toward it.

Sorry JMB for hijacking your question.

Zeraora's picture
ed: 08/05/2026
Confidence and humility aren't opposites, they're different axes: confidence is about your capability, humility is about your importance relative to others. You can have both.

Keep confidence listening, or it becomes arrogance. Keep humility hoping, or it becomes self-hatred.

Be confident in what you can do, humble about what you're worth, and keep both open.
Local Heretic's picture
ed: 17/03/2026

That is kind of what I tried to say, albeit much more flowery. I was saying confidence and self-hate are opposites, same for humility and arrogance. Not confidence and humility, for we must have both.

Do as He taught. In him is all good. Follow his ways.

No need to apologize, J.K. Simmons. You all take my sparse philosophical thoughts further than I ever could.

Gendarmerie Eloquess's picture
ed: 07/08/2026

Confidence is faith in yourself, arrogance is a belief in your superiority. Humility is an awareness that you are fallible and worth scrutiny, self hatred is the constsnt self-scrutinizing.

Prospector's picture
ed: 19/09/2026

Confidence becomes arrogance when you are mistaken.

Humility becomes self hatred when it is malicious.

Zeraora's picture
ed: 08/05/2026

Arrogance is confidence that no longer listens. Self hatred is humility that no longer hopes.

Media is a reflection of reality, incest, rape all of that is normalizing it in your head and thus making normal for you completely different than what should be. "Cartoons aren't human and are therefore incapable of relationships" is a perfect example of this, you read or watch romance media and feel happy (or sad) depending on what you see it effects you similarly to watching someone real do the same thing, porn does the same.

Gendarmerie Eloquess's picture
ed: 07/08/2026

I kind of agree. I mean, I don’t think I’ll think winchess is normal after I  read Sultry Summer for the thirtieth time, but it definitely means I’ll have less of a reaction to similar content in other works. Even then, my standards for acceptability in fiction are completely divorced from my standards for real life.

Yes media reflects the world, and it makes people feel things, but it does not override our overall decency or perception.

Zeraora's picture
ed: 08/05/2026

I actually lean toward your side on this more than most people here would it, but I think the framing matters.

It's not that fiction automatically normalizes everything. It's that repeated exposure can gradually shift what feels familiar, and familiar starts to feel acceptable for some people, especially younger or more isolated ones. There's actually a well documented mechanism behind this. It's called orgasm conditioning. Orgasm is one of the strongest behavioral reinforcers the brain has, and research directly states that it's an underlying mechanism in the development of paraphilias and sex addiction. The repeated pairing of a neutral stimulus with sexual pleasure literally reshapes what a person finds arousing over time. So the concern isn't baseless. It's grounded in how conditioning actually works. I just don't think it's a universal law that applies to everyone equally.

Maggotero's picture
ed: 23/04/2026

I'll disagree as always I don't mind you doing your morality rating on comics and such. But I don't think fiction normalizes things unless you're already screwed in the head. Besides most people just like it for the art.

Maggotero's picture

If you really don't want people to commit crimes, education is much better. And knowing why such a thing harms people should prevent people from causing harm to others

Morality Is Necessary's picture
ed: 02/10/2026

Oh yes definitely education is THE way to prevent these types of crimes however what im referring to (or atleast tried to) was the fact that the media you consume effects how you adjust yourself in reality as well as how the brain connects these types of things to your everyday life. But mainly the point was that the fact is that what you wank it to literally changes what gets you off (if you want to learn more look up Orgasm Conditioning)

Is it possible to work within a broken system to fix it, or does participating in it just make you another part of the problem?

And a follow-up: when every option is compromised, what do we actually owe the people around us? Is showing up and doing something small enough? Or is that just a comfortable excuse for not burning it all down?

This isn't about politics in the abstract. It's more of an individual question. When you know the game is rigged and you still have to live in it, what does a decent person actually do?

And when we do those small good things inside a system we know is rotten, are we healing it, or just cutting the leaves of a tree that needs to come down?
